            This type of juniper is found growing above 10,000 feet. 

What does it look like?

            Juniperus communis is an evergreen shrub or ground cover that produces purplish berry-like cones (http://www.nothingbutnwnatives.com, 2003).

What are the medical uses?

            This type of juniper is a gentle diuretic.  It is also used to treat arthritis, it lowers cholesterol, has anticancer activity, antitumor activity, and antiviral activity.  It also is used to treat gout and rheumatic conditions. 

What chemicals are in it?

            Juniperus communis has been found to contain the diuretics Terpinene-4-ol and Glycolic-acid.  It also contains the antihypertensive chemical Rutin.
