- some symptoms include redness, swelling, and pus
formation in the eye
- Infants usually contract this disease from passage
through the birth canal of an infected mother.
- Two bacteria that cause this disease in infants are neisseria
gonorrhoeae and chlamydia trachomatis.
- When born, the child is usually treated with silver
nitrate and antibiotic drops or the crede procedure is used to prevent this
disease from occuring. (Gustafson 2004)
